Lake Cathie

Lake Cathie is on the Mid North Coast, 10 minutes drive South of Port Macquarie or 10 minutes North from Laurieton. It is surrounded by National Parks, numerous waterways and wetlands. With a population around 2000, it can provide everything visitors need for a quiet beachside holiday in the country.

The lake and the ocean are a pleasant short walk from our park. Extensive sandy reserves and pristine beaches give access to safe areas where children can play or swim in shallow water. The largest, Foreshore Reserve on the lake, has shelter sheds, toilets, numerous electric barbecues with covered picnic tables, children’s play equipment and a beach shower. Fish cleaning tables have been constructed for keen fishermen.

Jabiru Reserve, west of the bridge, has a boat ramp with vehicle access and plenty of shady trees. Both reserves feature in our website. Aqua Reserve on the Northern side of the bridge is the popular fishing beach. There are numerous free electric barbeques on the bank.

The creek is popular with fishermen, as are the many kilometres of ocean beach north and south of the estuary. The beach near the lake entrance is patrolled in the Christmas holiday period. The coast has several whale watching platforms and whales and dolphins regularly come in close during the season.
